Was there a link on the invitation? If you click that, there should be a tiny "[join group] link just to the left of this message near the group profile. Let me know if there isn't and there's something else I can try.
I clicked on the invite, which brought me to the Group, but it is still saying 'invite only' in group profile... sorry to be such a dud nuisance!!!
