Has anyone ever heard of the band The Orb? I think they are one of the best bands to have on while doing artwork.
I just checked them out and they're wonderful! I can easily envision painting to their music. I'm going to get an album now, thanks for posting this!
usually I have music on when I'm creating that has little or no words
i prefer little or no words as well, but not classical strangely enough...more electronica type stuff.

http://youtu.be//6w3a8Lww9s This is part of an Ontario arts project. i flimed the fluid movement of paint (process) & then viewed on camcorder. While viewing, I improvised piano, in accordance with colour, mood movement. It reminds me of a dragon fighting with a turtle. The project is called optical flow & sound design.check it out if you get a chance.

Hey Kristie (and group members!)! I've always said my life is like a movie with a soundtrack :) I almost always listen to music while creating.
I don't have a whole soundtrack, but def have a theme song!! what do you listen too? Make us a playlist:))
hey! thanks for the add and sorry about the late reply / join, i havent kept up with my online stuff for a while,i will soon post up a play list that i listen to,but honestly i find it much easier to set a pase with a repetetive beat ,it calms me so much to paint this way . but anywhoo, sorry again .
Thank you for the invitation! I'm not sure how the music I listen to while doing artwork influences the art I create, but I can share what are some of the music I have put while creating. One musician I listen to is Bei Bei, a young woman who plays the Chinese zither. I noticed how someone mentioned Portishead. Their "Third" cd is one of my favorites. Another one is Peace Orchestra. Recently I purchased Moby's new cd, Destroyed. It seems like it will go well with doing art.
Glad to have you...like your playlist, and thanks for sharing! I'm always interested in new music, kinda my thing...:))
I have an enormous collection of music from which to choose when I draw. I find that it helps me concentrate, but does not really effect my music. The music that effects my work most is my favored Punk. I tend to draw things with guns on them when I am listening to it.
that's funny... guns and punk two time honored traditions! Now I'll be thinking of "Guns of Brixton" when I look at your work...lol. All the Best my lord! have a great day!
Thank you for inviting me... When I work I usually listen to portishead, the shins, kate bush, bat for lashes, florence and the machine etc....
portishead, the shins, kate bush... three of my favs... thanks for sharing your work and music influence!
I added some of my music-related drawings. Hope you don`t mind!
Love, I'm a bit of a Smiths geek, soooo pretty much loving you right now...besides love your work in general so thx for contributing, best K

pleased to meet you as well, and glad to have you here! thanks for the post, love radiohead, no to familiar with them crooked vultures, but i'll look 'em up. posted a link on your post to radiohead album in case anyone else wants to give a listen, Have a great day, best K
Thanks for the invite!
Welcome Vladimir! so glad your here...now we can get your brooklyn influence. let me guess, your paintings are inspired by Jay Z? "Brooklyn we go hard..." :D!!
Kristie- this group is looking incredible already! What inspiring Art!
so excited to have such a great response! all the works are just amazing! glad your enjoying the group:)))
Thank you for the invitation Kristie! Music most definitely plays a large role in my creative process. I remember listening to the Cure quite a bit when painting years ago. Now it could range from punk rock, Op Ivy, Clash, etc. to more ethereal Radiohead, Hope Sandoval... the list goes on and on. Many of my subjects are moved to dance as a result of the music in my head:)
Hey matador! I still listen to the cure, lol, and the clash is one of the greatest bands ever!! love radiohead...you if i was in one of your paintings i would dance too!
Links section is a playlist of sorts, I've posted a few new songs...If u guys enjoy these let me know and I'll make sure to make a new one weekly using different genres. Abeiento!
Amon Tobin, Bridge Beirut, In The Mausoleum Aging Young Rebel, DJ Food Beirut, Nantes This Is Now, The Knife
Beautiful works everybody! Group gallery looks fantastic! I'm so very happy about the great response, keep 'em coming:D!
thanks for the invite kristiesrtist
Great to have you here Trey, and thanks for contributing! I didn't know anyone but me still listens to the dead milkmen:)). Kimya Dawson and White Stripes are a couple of my favs too!
Hi to All, thanks for the invite Kristie to your group! I sometime listen to music while i am painting, but not all the time.
Hi Kristie. Thanks for the invitation. Although I love music, I almost never listen to music while painting. I also don't think music is a major influence on my work, although I see the resemblences between making music and art. There was one instant that music played a negative influence on my work. I was painting and in some kind of mood, when the art teacher put on a song that did not align to my mood. I was emotionally shocked and could not work on that night. So music can be a very important way to influence your mood. And sometimes I have to think of a song when I'm finished, like my painting "Let's dance" (I had to think about a song of I think it was David Bowie).
Thanks for the visit Nico, Totally agree about music influencing your mood, it's very powerful...this is partially the reason for my intense love of music. Even if the group is not right for you to join, come back and visit occasionally and maybe check out a playlist or two! Best, K
Hi Kirstie, thanks for the invite. Although my art is not directly influenced by music I most definitely always have music playing when I work. In fact it such a big part of the day to day life in our home. My tastes are very eclectic from classical to punk - just depends on the mood. :):)
Great to have you! My musical taste are in the same range:) Use the form to share some of your favorites!
hi Kirstie thank you for the invite,i love tamla motown, soul music and love some 60s,70s, and 80s,and i put them on to inspire me and it works, there are so many of my works i can relate to with music as some of the titles suggest.love the group.
Hey Derek, glad to have you. I can totally see your musical inspiration in your work. I've often picture some of your works as album covers for blues or soul greats. Or getting the feeling you've just walked into a moody Noir film with a persistent sax floating through the background. If you're up for it post a playlist in the form section, love to hear it:)
Hi Everyone! I love the music with the art concept...but is there any way to embed a youtube video to go with the lyrics?
I've just been posting the url address which if used in google search will take you right there. I think bc is working on a way to embed video, but for now I'm just using links to sources outside the site.
Thank you for the invitation to join this group. My musical influences are diverse and I can work as easily listening to music as in silence... There are no fixed rules with my creative process. Anyway, my sincere respect and goodwill to all here, Julian.
Thanks so much for the invitation, Kristie (made me re-visit your portfolio!!). This is a great idea for a new group, since I know that so many people listen to music while they create. I am, however, the exact opposite. I need total silence when I work on my drawings. I do love lots of the images already here, though. I'll be coming back to check people's posts out! Thanks again for thinking of me!--Judith
Wow, very interesting, I would never have guessed. Well anyone who's favorite bands include the clash, the cure, and loves classical music is alright in my book, even if they don't listen to them whilst they create. ...and I don't actually have a book I write people's names in that are "ok" and "not ok" with me, wouldn't that be hilarious! I welcome your visits, come back anytime:D! Warm Regards, K
Oh, and don't forget Green Day! One of my all-time favorite bands! Plus I love ancient Renaissance music. I don't know where I got such a weird mixture from ;-) So, I do like music, but I can do only either/or. Either I listen to music OR I draw--it's like walking and talking at the same time--BIG problem ;-)) I joined your group, but I'll be a "silent", or more like an "invisible" member, since we are all visual artists. Thanks again for the invitation, Kristie! Keep in touch--Judith
merci beaucoup , c est avec plaisir !
bienvenue mon ami! I love french music, cant wait to see who inspires you! It's prob a bit corny, but I absolutely LOVE Jacques Dutronc! 1960's french pop, what's not to love?
Normally I don't end up joining the groups here. I forget or my manager handles it. BUT, because I really like you Kristie- I'm in! Also I vote myself to be treasurer. Music does influence my mindset while creating my art. IN fact, I had my studio floor turned into the rolling floor like in the Jamiroquai video "Virtual Insanity". I put the big fuzzy hat on and I slide into my groove.
and it really added so much more for me, I'm more in love with your work now than ever! ps. If you have video of yourself working on that Jamiroquai dance floor wearing the big fuzzy hat, posting it will make you a celebrity on the viral video circuit....yeah I'd forward that to everyone I know, like everyone I'd ever met...ever!
Thanks for the invite. I find I listen to different things at different stages of each painting. Some parts require more intense focus than others. I'll give this more thought. Thanks!
thanx for the invite! i'll have to do some pondering on it; but i'm sure that my chosen music influences my work greatly. everything from bing and franky to led zeppelin and the insane clown posse; it all has an effect on writing somehow.
all my works are done to music, i cannot even imagine not listening to music when i paint...i come from a family of musicians, my instrument is my paintbrush, my rhythm is color....thnx for inviting me to join!
Thank you for the invitation, I think this is a wondeful idea!
Glad to have you Katy, I love the moodiness and dark corners in your work, love to hear the music to go with it!
Thank you for inviting me. Music is truly an important connection to what I present on canvas. Blue raincoat by Leonard Cohen sometimes works for me.
I find that I initially will put music on, and then get so wrapped up in the painting that I forget to press play again when it stops.
The same thing happens to me:). Your work is so beautiful and dreamy, I cant wait to here your musical influences!
Many thanks for the invitation. Yes! I always have music on while working! GREAT IDEA for a Group! ;-D
So glad you accepted! Chopin is great for stimulating the mind while relaxing the body. Thanks so much for contributing!
Cool avatar Kristie- and new forum post is beautiful- didn't know if I should comment here or there, so will play safe and not ruin your work there xxx
Thanks Rose glad you like the forum post I'm hoping the concept will grow as the group begin to add their own post. My dear heart you can comment wherever you like! Any comment you post wherever you post I'm sure will be a wonderful addition to the group. It is impossible to ruin anything here since as a group it is to be shared and enjoyed by us all as a collective:-))). I've not heard of David Sylvian, but will definitely look him up! xox
Kristie- congratulations on such a great concept for the Group- I work all the time with music, and really look forward to seeing what you develop here! Very best wishes!!
Thank you so much Rose, It's still in process thank you so much for being the first to sign up...I think it will be great once i get it going :D

Lyrics are actually really important to me because they resonate and evoke a strong emotion withe me. I usually always paint to music with important lyrics. Or if not, I'm listening to electronica. This is a great idea for a group by the way. Thanks for creating it!
